About VI Social:
Our Story

VI Social was born from one individual's transformative experience with visual impairment. Our founder's story is a testament to the power of companionship, personal growth, and community support.

After college, our founder faced a period of isolation until adopting a pet dog named Sam. This furry companion became a catalyst for change, helping to rebuild confidence and develop essential mobility skills. The bond with Sam led to improved cane techniques and the use of assistive technologies, gradually breaking down barriers of isolation.

This personal journey of growth continued with the adoption of a Guide Dog named Topper, further expanding our founder's horizons. These experiences highlighted the profound impact that support and companionship can have on those living with visual impairments.

Recognising the need for a dedicated social group in the Sutton Coldfield community, our founder established the visual impairment friendship group SAMS in 2018. This initiative aimed to connect individuals facing similar challenges, fostering friendships and providing mutual support.

The group's success and positive impact on its members' lives led to its evolution. In 2024, SAMS transformed into VI Social, a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to improving the lives of visually impaired individuals through social connection, skill development, and community engagement.

At VI Social, we believe in the potential of every individual. Our founder's experience has shown that with the right support and opportunities, people can overcome challenges and thrive. We are committed to creating an inclusive environment where visually impaired individuals can build friendships, develop new skills, and lead fulfilling lives.

As we continue to grow and evolve, our core mission remains unchanged: to be the change we want to see in the world, one smile at a time.
